I just received a Notice of Delinquent Registration/Final Notice in the mail from the DMV. They sent this notice to the address I lived at last year and it was redirected to my current address. I submitted an official change of address with the postal office around January of this year. I didn’t know I had to submit one for the DMV as well. Lesson learned. Regardless, shouldn’t my mail have been forwarded to me like this last notice was?
Now they’re saying I owe $206 in 30 days. But it’s really like 18 days now because I received this Final Notice 12 DAYS LATE. My solution as of now is to call the DMV and explain my situation. I haven’t received a Notice of Registration this entire year, so I’m not okay with having to pay penalty fees. Also, due to the pandemic, one cannot physically visit the DMV to conduct normal business, not to mention longer than usual phone wait times. AND the government is sabotaging the mail system, so nothing is working like usual. This is probably the reason why I got this notice almost two weeks late.
I’m not angry which is a bit surprising since I’ve done nothing wrong here and things like this normally really bother me. I am annoyed however, because now I have to call a representative and be on hold forever before they tell me if they can even help. I’ll just have to be a little patient and see how this plays out. If I end up having to pay the fee, it’ll take quite a hit to my little “survival fund”, but I guess that’s life.
I just used DMV online to change my address, yippee. However, I was not able to change the address for my car because I don’t know what the registration issue date was. *insert eye roll*. I did my best. Hopefully I don’t run into any issues any time soon. #adulting P.S. I’ve been on hold for 53 minutes now.
